Managing Carbon: Footprints, Risk and Climate Action for Business and Government This workshop will explain key conceptual aspects of carbon footprints to assist decision makers who must manage a carbon footprint process now and understand the implications of the results. Various aspects of “climate risk” – new regulations, reporting requirements, and physical changes in climate – will be linked to carbon footprints and to climate action steps for immediate implementation and for medium- and long-term planning. |

Smart Grid 101 'The Future is Now' This course provides a comprehensive introduction to smart grid technology including deployment and applications. The material focuses on high-level aspects of smart electrical grids, and the benefits, challenges, and opportunities in the present economy. The course also addresses the increase in electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids, and associated demand for smart grid charging stations. The specific technical aspects of smart grid engineering and systems design are beyond the scope of this one-day course and will be covered in future courses intended for smart grid workforce development and systems management professionals. |

Ecosystem Goods and Service Valuation This one-day course for non-economists will provide participants an overview of general natural resource economics with an emphasis on how economics can resource managers make decisions. Special emphasis will be placed on ecosystem service valuation, regional economics, impact analysis, benefit cost analysis and particularly the development of ecosystem markets. Economic ecosystem valuation and ecosystem markets are being described by many as a new tool for resource management. |

Triple Bottom Line Reporting Triple bottom line reporting is emerging as an important and necessary part of an organization’s disclosure. Two main issues addressed are 1) what a triple bottom line report is and 2) the areas addressed in a triple bottom line report. The first issue involves establishing an understanding of the triple bottom line and a structure for accountability. The second issue deals with identifying boundaries, a methodology for reporting and development of an understanding of the issues around subject areas in reporting. |
